US Deputy Assistant Secretary Jorgan K. Andrews has visited the Kosovo Academy for Public Security today, with crést said they see the possibility of continuing their support for this academy.
He said he is impressed with the work done at this academy, until he stressed that the integration of ethnic and gender groups into this academy is very positive.
The American Embassy in Kosovo is a proud partner of this academy for many years. We've had this co-operation since the beginning and the State Department that I represent, as well as my colleagues from the Justice Department work very closely together to support the Academy's commitment to providing better professionalism and training for the Kosovo Police Force. It's very impressive to see the integrated nature of categories, ethnic groups are all represented, it's a growing number of cadde women in these categories, and that's important for any police force. The police force is healthy, better and stronger when it represents a gender connection as well as the ethnic composition of the state. All of these are promising developments, we certainly look for opportunities to further support the curriculum, training, equipment, and we look forward to the day when this academy will be ready to do whatever it takes to ensure that Kosovo citizens are safe and have the best possible police”, he said.
In contrast, Academy of Public Security General Director Ismail Smakqi said they feel honored with the visit they have received by deputy secretary of state, until he has claimed that the International Bureau of Narcotics is almost the main donor of the Academy.
We are very happy that the International Bureau of Narcotics is the Academy's almost main donor. We had this case today and fate to be the deputy secretary of state here at the” Academy, he said.
US Deputy Assistant Secretary Jorgan K. Andrews has also visited the cadets at the Public Security Academy, where he has seen closely the training they receive to train for protection and citizen assistance.
He turned to the cadets, said citizens expect a lot of them and that he expects a job that is sometimes very dangerous.
“Vlerating that credibility will be more important and higher for police officials. Your society is very trusting and of course your expectations are enormous, and your society expects you to protect them, but of course some criminal from harming someone. Sometimes it's a very dangerous job”, he said.
He has also been informed by Kosovo Academy for Public Security officials of the challenges they face and the opportunities they offer in training the new Kosovo Police Cadets.
