Internal Affairs Ministry officials say only about 1,000 and 800 people have been applied so far. According to them, after this deadline the fines for illegal weapons will be nice high.
Under the motto “with letter”, the campaign, which began at the end of 2018 in a six-month deadline, has been intended to persuade citizens to respond to the call for illegal weapons legalisation they possess.
Destan Mustafa, leader of the Weapons, Munition and Explozied Division at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, told Radio Kosovo that the MPB has estimated that the first six-month campaign has been successful and that they have decided for another three months.
We have estimated that it has been a successful and important campaign and we have continued for three months, which is still valid tomorrow. Throughout the campaign, we have 1800 legalisation requests. I think it could have been the largest number of requests”, he said.
Mustafa says they now need another six-month period to make assessments of the requirements for legalisation.
“Now we have a little longer procedure because of legalisation and interconnection with other institutions”, he said.
During the duration of the campaign for legalisation of illegal weapons, with MPB incumbent Minister Ekrem Mustafa's decision, the implementation of Article 374 of the Penal Code has been suspended, which, in paragraph one, envisions fines of up to 7 thousand and 500 euros or prison sentences of up to five years for illegal weapons.
