Due to massive corruption, the United States has announced the withdrawal of aid to Afghanistan.
The aid taken from Afghanistan is worth $160 million. This decision comes 10 days before important presidential elections.
In this regard, Pompeo cited <x0) the corruption of the Afghan government and financial mismanagement” and “Kabul's inability to manage transparently the American government's resources”.
The move comes at a time when Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghan is aiming at a second term in elections held on September 28th.
The National Procuration Authority in Afghanistan has failed “to meet standards for transparency and accountability in public finance management”, Pompeo said.
Since 2001, Afghanistan has received more than 93 billion US aid, according to the American Agency for International Development (USAID).
