Christ the Mocked, part of the series of paintings toward the end of the 13th century, was discovered in the small town of Compiegne in northern France.
It is thought to be sold for 6 million euros at auction next month.
The old woman thought she was an old religious icon. Experts said the origin of the painting could not be disputed.

Various tests were conducted to confirm similarities with the works of Italian painter Cimabue, also known as Cenni di Pepo, the BBC writes, conveys Periscopi in Albanian.
“Picture is made from the same hand,” said art expert Eric Turquin.
Cimabue works were widely influenced by Byzantine art produced in poplar paneled panels with the background of gold paint. /Periscope
