Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the elections after failing to form the ruling coalition after the April vote.
Recent opinion polls put his party Likud in close competition with the main rival, the Blue and White Party, led by former military chief Benny Gantz.
Polls suggest neither of these parties will have clear majority.
Talks on forming the new coalition are expected to begin until the vote is completed at 10: 00 p.m. local times and the first results are released.
