National Police spokesman Dedy Prasetyo said authorities have arrested 185 people in the six provinces hit by fires and four corporations are under investigation. He added that 99 percent of fires have started because of the human factor.

Fires and smoke are a constant problem during summer months in Indonesia, where many people use land - burning techniques to expand agricultural areas. The same action caused mass fires in Amazon Brazil earlier this year.

This year alone, more than 328 thousand hectares of land have been burned in Indonesia, hundreds of residents have moved, and more than 9,000 soldiers have been sent to areas affected to fight fires. These statistics have given the National Emergency Management Board.

Fires have had negative effects on the lives of people in this region. Singapore and Malaysia are involved in thick smoke, while the quality of the air has fallen to dangerous levels.

More than 600 schools have been shut down in Malaysia because of air pollution, leaving thousands of students unconscious, writes “CNN”, Transmission Express.
