It's about a lawyer, a gynecologist, a mom and three other women who played intermediaries between foster families and people who sold them.
Greek Order bodies estimate that the number of people involved in the illegal adoption network believed to be one of the largest and most organised” in Europe goes to over 66 people.
After an operation attended by more than 85 police agents, it has been found so far that this group has conducted over 22 baby sales, 24 egg sales and 10 cases of payment of so-called “mothers ordering” from 2016 to this day.
Its financial benefits have been over 550,000 euros. The jurist-run network and gynaecologist doctor found poor pregnant women in Bulgaria and Romania and paid up to 5,000 euros to sell their babies to childless Greek couples. Pregnant women came to Thessaloniki last month to be born in private clinics, while expenses amounting to 28,000 euros were paid by the foster family.
The first six network members to have testified in the court until late Friday evening have been temporarily released on bail, with bail of 300,000 euros, forced police appearances and detention bans from Greece until trial development, while in the coming hours, they testify to the prosecution as well as 6 others. Sources at the City Court suggest that parents who adopted children from the network in question will not be affected by this process.
