“in 2019 compensation for persons convicted or arrested without cause has been demanded by 153 persons worth 366 thousand”, euros.
KPC chief Skender Cocaj said this year is better than other years and that judges should be used alternative measures before the detention decision is taken.
There is an increase of persons and specific amounts that have been paid to these people, even though the figures are positive in recent years, must be taken into account after this issue should be analysed among judges in court”, he said.
“This links to the detention issue, we need to appeal to judges to use alternative measures as much as possible, but caution must be taken because the code of criminal procedure requires alternative measures to be implemented as much as possible, and the final measure the judge must take into account is the detention measure and because of the time he has spent there comes to the demand for compensation”, he added.
On the other hand, Supreme Court Chairman Enver Peci has asked all judges to take care of the trial, since even for domestic arrest it has the right to seek compensation.
The “is a general appeal for all to be careful with the case of the detention because from that moment the consequences are created even in domestic arrest, persons are entitled to compensation”, Peci said.
