At a closed-door meeting, addressing parliamentarians, a representative from the Interior Ministry said that, of the 225 persons saved at sea and sent to Germany since July 2018, 138 are undergoing asylum procedures”, according to meeting participants.
About 47% of migrants have been allowed to stay in the country by providing asylum, refugee status, or supplementary protection because they face serious damage in their country of origin.
On Monday, Germany, Italy, France and Malta suggested an agreement to reunite migrants rescued from the sea.
German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer said yesterday that the “agreement could be the foundation of a new, common asylum policy that is led by solidarity. ”/ats
