This is the most devastating earthquake in world history

With a magnitude 9.4H9.6 devastating earthquake occurred in the afternoon and lasted 10 minutes, causing a tsunami that affected South Chile, Japan, the Philippines, eastern New Zealand, Southeast Australia, and others.

The U.S. Geological Service reported this event as the greatest “mer of the 20” century.

Other earthquakes in recorded history may have been larger; however, this is the biggest earthquake that occurred after precise earthquake estimates became possible in the early 1900 ' s.

The number of victims from the quake in Chile is still not known for certain, accounting for as many as 7,000, while material damages are estimated at between $400 and 800m.

Chile's government estimated that some 2 million people were homeless.
