Wessel: All corrupts to be confiscated illegal property

Kosovo Parliament Speaker, at once leader of The PDK, Kadri Wessel accompanied by Justice Minister Abelard Tahiri, has visited today the Agency for Property Management, or Confiscated, which manages assets seized worth about 40m euros.

Leader of The PDK, Kadri Veselini, said with this case that the fight against corruption would intensify and illegal property acquired through corruption and abuse will be seized and confiscated by all corrupts.

The “so and here all those who think about touching the wealth of the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo have come to an end. That's the message I'd give you. More powerful than any individual in Kosovo, however powerful, is the law. The Law should all hold to it. The fight against corruption will be incompatible. I know it's hard, there's difficulties, we expect support from the citizens and we're going all the way. I congratulate the minister, I believe in young people fighting corruption. He's done a great job. We have been in the phase of creating legislation for two years, including expanded competencies for the seizure of property. We're going one by one. Anyone who has gained the sweat of others will receive it, and those who live in their own sweat will get more rich and have prospects for”, said Wessel.

Wessel said that property confiscated by corrupts would turn to society and those millions of euros would be invested in opening new jobs and creating better opportunities for young people, who will build their future in Kosovo.

While Justice Minister Abelard Tahiri thanked Wessel for his support as justice minister to begin and strengthen the fight against corruption.

“Exactly the Ministry of Justice and the Agency for the Management of Secuested and Confiscated Assets manages a total of 34 million assets that are playable and realistic. So already with the adoption of the new law in 2018, the law for enhanced competence of property, which I thank for, the speaker of Parliament, which has been his personal commitment and his personal commitment to increasing and empowering the fight against organised crime and corruption, and subsequently after the introduction of this law, has already increased the number of assets that are confiscated. Actually, it's only during 2019 that we have about 64 cases that are confiscated, including cars, real estate, cash. The effects on the area of implementing the law of expanded competencies are already being seen for the seizure of property. So it has been the personal dedication of Mr. Veselin, the chairman of the Kosovo Parliament, and the implementation of this law that is very important in fighting organised crime and corruption. The only way to weaken the power of criminal groups, to destroy criminal groups, is not simply their ban and their imprisonment, they are destroyed when we overtake the assets they have acquired with criminal activity”, Tahiri said.
