Serbia has a concrete plan to reduce the number of Kosovo recognitions. But why is it important for them to get the number down to 97?
Serbia's Foreign Affairs Minister Ivica Dacic has stated that Serbia's goal is for the number of states that have recognised Kosovo's independence to come down below 97, less than half of UN members.
For the decisions of some states to withdraw recognition of Kosovo, even though Kosovo's MPJ has denied them, Serbia says there is evidence to argue.
Out of 117 states for which Pristina says they have accepted Kosovo's independence, Nigeria, Uganda and Mali have denied that, while 14 states have withdrawn their recognitions, “reports. Pink TV”, broadcast news.net.
In fact, the number 97 is considered to be “imagical” for Serbian diplomacy.
But why Serbia considers it important that the number drop below 97 recognitions of Kosovo.
Also on their list are the states that officially say they have suspended the decision on recognition, such as Egypt and Peru. Pristina's scores from 117 states are wavering, our objective is to bring that number down below 98 because it represents less than half of the member states in the United Nations, so this is important for voting in international organisations so that they don't pass”, he said of “Pink TV”, broadcast news.net.
According to him, Pristina has repeatedly provoked efforts to membership in international organisations including INTERPOL, UNESCO and the world customs organisation.
“We manage to prevent it when procedures allow us but it is important to say that even voting for INTERPOL has testified that the Kosovo issue is alive and that it is not defined as they say in Pristina”, he said.
The UN General Assembly is comprised of 193 members, and if the number of states that have accepted Kosovo's independence is less than 100, it means that more than half of the member states do not accept Kosovo citizenship, the news broadcasts.net.
Given that Pristina's major goal is to secure seating in the UN, the Serbian diplomacy plan is under way and plans to ensure a better position.
