Trump via a Twitter post has stated that he has talked to the National Rifle Association Association (NRA) so that their views can be “represented and respected”.
The NRA opposes complete checks demanded by the congress, the BBC writes.
The Democrats want the Senate to withdraw from the holiday to adopt immediate arms control legislation.
Trump, who did not specify which steps he would support, said everyone should work together for the country's security.
We don't want people who are mentally ill, people who are sick, we don't want them to carry weapons”, Trump wrote on Twitter.
