According to the Ministry of Finance data, there is a drop in external debt of 416m euros as it stood at 2018 to 409m euros in this year's quarter.
However, domestic debt has increased by 45m euros during the January-June period of this year alone, reaching 721m euros.
Tools from this debt serve budget financing, filling the deficit respectively, and are not destined for any specific project. By the end of this year, this debt is expected to reach 815m euros.
This data shows that Kosovo has a higher share of domestic debt compared to countries in the region. According to a analysis by the Institute “Riinvest”, however this is a positive fact when it comes to budgetary burdens for the service of domestic debt, this could be a risk if the long-term internal debt was used only to cover the budget deficit in the destination of goods, services and transfers, and not even the financing of capital investments.
