Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he wants to accelerate “talks with the European Union to reach a new Brex agreement ahead of the country's EU exit deadline on October 31st.
British negotiators will meet with their counterparts in the EU, twice a week through September, in an effort to reach a new divorce agreement.
“We are willing to work in a determined way to reach a” agreement, Johnson said.
His chief negotiator for Brexit, David Frost, will be accompanied in Brussels by various officials, depending on the talks, including customs experts, business issues, and so on.
“Dictions so far have shown that both sides remain somewhat apart from major issues, but are willing to work hard to find a way out of”, the British government announced through a statement.
Prime Minister Johnson's statement comes two days after his decision to suspend the work of Parliament.
The move prompted harsh reactions by Brexi deputies and opponents without agreement.
The decision also triggered protests throughout Britain and a petition of more than a million signatures.
The agreement negotiated by the EU and former British Prime Minister Theresa May has collapsed from the British Parliament three times in a row.
Prime Minister Johnson has insisted that Great Britain wants to leave the EU with a renegotiated withdrawal agreement, but that, according to him, even if something like that does not happen, the country will leave the EU on October 31st.
