Former Kosovo Prime Minister, currently head of the National Council of Social Democrat Initiative Jakup Krasniqi, has said Sunday that all circumstances say the initiative will compete alone in early elections.
In this interview given to the newspaper “The new era”, he has stressed that in these elections, citizens expect to assess the work of the Initiative in governance and its Social Democrat election programme.
“Krasniqi as you see the progress of developments on the political scene, will there be distribution of the Assembly Thursday and early elections, or will a technical government be established?
Krasniqi: For years, political developments in Kosovo have mostly two agendas. The negotiating agenda with Serbia and the election or any other development and all have a goal: how to deceive voters to win as many votes as possible, but the goal is not to govern well. If we take into account political party statements, the distribution of the Assembly has no alternative, as well as early elections. The technical government has little or no chance.
“According to you, what would be the best option for the country's future?
Krasniqi: The best option would be if the ruling mandates were constitutional (four years), but that never happened after declaring independence. The best option would be to change for good government. But that happens if citizens refuse fraud and manipulation.
“Will holding early elections harm the country in the process of Euro-Atlantic integration and other processes?
Krasniqi: If early or extraordinary elections were free, fair, fair and democratic, they would not harm the country, but such elections have not yet been seen. Such elections would be in service of Euro-Atlantic integrations.
“The US and Quinn are calling for continued dialogue on normalisation of reports between Kosovo and Serbia, could this process resume before the establishment of new institutions if there are elections in autumn?
Krasniqi: The pressure of Western countries should be directed on Belgrade, as there are main obstacles to dialogue and positive results of dialogue developed for several years in Brussels with EU mediation. After the JND decision, that Kosovo's independence does not conflict with international law, international pressure has had to have only one address: Serbia!
“Krasniqi all political parties have started preparations for the new elections, what are the expectations of the Initiative from these elections?
Krasniqi: Parties always have the right to prepare for elections. Elections must prepare to vote for political and electoral programmes, which the programme needs to be read and reread carefully. Citizens must punish all political parties that have had their prime minister in post-independence governments and have governed very badly. In this election, we expect citizens to appreciate the work of the Initiative in governance and its Social Democrat election programme. Citizens must assess the offer of the Social Democrat Initiative, its communication language and its determination to bring about change. I am convinced that the change in Kosovo comes with the Social Democrat Initiative. Of course, change did not come without citizens' free will for change. In citizens' vote it is the key to changing good governance.
“Will the initiative compete alone or in the pre-election coalition?
Krasniqi: The ancient Romans had an expression saying: All roads lead to Rome. All circumstances tell us that the initiative in early elections goes alone.
“You have not ruled out the possibility of a coalition even with the PDK, why do you think the country will need such a coalition?
Krasniqi: The initiative does not set red lines for any party that could win the elections. The conditions set out in my writing have been aimed at not making pre-election coalitions with any other party and not only with the PDK, but writing is seen in another dimension, which I have not thought. In short, I haven't been and not for pre-election coalitions of <x0mesvins” politics, but that depends a lot on the election outcome after the elections.
