A site for water traffic monitoring published images of the ship leaving British waters in this strait, where it was standing for six weeks. It is reported that on Monday morning, the ship is headed east and is believed to be headed to Kalamata, Greece.
The news came hours after Gibraltar authorities rejected the United States' request for the seizure of the ship “Grace 1”. Loaded with 2.1 million barrels of oil, the shipment loaded on this ship is believed to cost $140m.
The British Royal Navy had seized this ship off the coast of Gibraltar on July 4th, arguing that it was carrying oil to Syria contrary to European Union sanctions against this state.
The move had prompted the seizure of a British ship from Iran to the Persian Gulf in retaliation for the Iranian ship. These actions caused diplomatic crisis between the two states. Britain countered sending a battleship to the Persian Gulf to offer more protection to commercial ships, writes the Guardian”.
