There is still no official statement as to whether the explosion could be a possible attack.
The blast occurred when a car headed in the opposite direction of traffic in Cairo crashed into three other vehicles, the interior minister announced in a press release.
The heavy smoke from the accident caused much of the citizens to be evacuated. The event happened near the National Cancer Institute.
Egypt's attorney general said the first investigations show it is an accident, but nothing is final, Reuters writes.
