A fire aboard a Russian Navy research ship has killed at least 14 crew members, news disclosed by the Russian defence ministry. The crew were poisoned by smoke when the ship was measuring in Russian territorial waters on Monday.

The ministry gave no details about the type of ship. But Russian media reports say it was a nuclear mini-instate used for special operations.

Currently, the ship is located in Severomorsk, the main base of the fleet in northern Russia. /tch
