(7 years ago)Albania's president, Ilir Meta, has refused the appointment of the academic, Skender Gjiush, as chairman of the Academy of Sciences by a special decree. The reason for the rejection according to Meta is that “the realisation of the election process for the chairman of the Academy of Sciences, Mr. Skender Djiushi legally figures in the Social Party chairmanial post [...]
The reason for Meta's refusal is that the “day of implementation of the election process for the chairman of the Academy of Sciences, Mr. Skender Djiushi legally figures in the Social Democratic Party chairmanship post, which the law prohibits”.
Referring to a series of laws, Meta notes that “The status of the regular member of the Academy of Sciences cannot be exercised in parallel with the performance of senior leadership functions in the political party”.
