Israel has begun destroying a group of Palestinian homes, which are said to have been built illegally near the occupied territory of the West Coast.
Security forces have entered the Sur Baher area near East Jerusalem to destroy the homes of 17 people.
Some 700 Israeli police officials and 200 soldiers are involved in the operation.
Residents have said they have sought permission to build at the Palestinian Authority, and have accused Israel of trying to rob the West Coast of land.
However, the Supreme Court of Israel has ruled that residents have violated a ban on construction.
Israel invaded the West Coast in the 1967 war and later annexed East Jerusalem.
According to international law, both areas are considered occupied territories, despite Israel's differences. / REL/
