Sunday's protest is the seventh in a row to be held over the weekend, and where citizens are going out on the street to oppose the government and the proposed draft law on the extradition of citizens to China. However, the protest has already turned into a wide movement, where protesters are demanding the resignation of the leaders of this territory.
Prior to Sunday's protest in the centre of town, police imposed water barriers around their headquarters and also established a safety cord around the complex of government buildings. The metal fences, waste baskets, and other road objects have been removed because the past protests have been used as barricades by protesters.
Some protesters have taken to the streets in the early hours of Sunday morning. Authorities said they have found two kilograms of powerful explosives of the triperoxid type of triceton and other materials, including gasoline, acid bombs, knives and metal bars.
Chinese authorities have reacted to these protests. “Kina will not allow extremists and outside forces to bring down the justice system”, says their statement, writes the “The Guardian”.
