None of the blocs created have been willing to give up on their candidates. Participants got tired of 16 hours of talks, and even such a time period did not suffice for presidents and prime ministers of the bloc's member states to find solutions for names at the most important positions in the European Union.
EU Council Chairman Donald Tusk announced the summit failed, as even face-to-face negotiations with leaders of some of the bloc's most important countries produced no results. The summit will continue operations Tuesday at 11.
The main camps of the largest parties were not ready for compromise, Tusk said at a press conference following the summit's failure. German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and Czechia countries along with Italy have opposed Dutch Frans Timmmermans' candidacy for the post of European Commission head, with the argument that he is too left and focused on criticism of legal shortcomings in Hungary and Poland.
Orban has not supported PEP candidate Manfred Weber (CSU). Merkel acknowledged that people are tired of walking and disagreements in the EU, but stressed that steps that will be taken well, because with these decisions it needs to live in the next five years.
