Tsipras declared early elections shortly after he suffered losses in the European Parliament elections, which were held in May.
The polling stations have opened at seven o'clock in the morning, while these are the sixth elections held in Greece following the global economic crisis since 2008.
Mitsotakis has promised smaller taxes, increased the privatisation rate of public services, and plans to renegotiate this state's agreements with its creditors, enabling more investments.
Tsipras, who came to power in 2015, has promised more investments and recently increased pensions.
Each party should win at least 3 per cent of the vote to become part of the assembly. To form the new government, the winning party must have at least 151 deputies in the assembly with a total of 300 seats, writes “BBC.
