He managed to become richer but also notorious. In 1888, Nobel was surprised to read his own necrology, entitled “, the death merchant”, in a French newspaper.
In fact, his brother Ludwig had died, but Alfred, concerned about how he would remember when he died, decided to leave behind something to be remembered for good.
Alfred Nobel was personally interested in experimental medicine, and in his will he requested that at death, an award for progress through scientific discoveries in the “labs be created for the benefit of all mankind”.
In addition to prices for physics, Kim, Literature and Peace, the Economy Award was established by the Swedish Academy of Sciences in 1969 in honour of Nobel, and is called Nobel Prize for Economics even because it is awarded on the same day as five Nobel Prizes.
