Initiative MP Zafir Berisha has spoken against building this highway. While last night Minister of Environment and Space Planning Fatmir Matoshi, who is from the AKR party, has said it would probably be better to invest in the economy rather than build more highways.
MP Daut Haradinaj has reacted to this.
In a Facebook writing he has cited facts to show why the Dukagjin Plain region needs a developed infrastructure. He has also called for a response from the mayors of this region.
This is his complete writing:
Some highway statistics.
The connection of 5 municipalities in Dukagjin means about 624,000 people.
In projects implemented so far, the current vehicle has been:
In a certain region that the highway is finished there are about 5,000 vehicles in 24 hours, and on the Dukagjin highway in the months -- June, July and August -- there are 20,000 vehicles in 24 hours.
For all skeptics of this capital project, they need to understand that there can be no economic development until there is no infrastructure, so much so when in the Dukagjin region there are Albanian Alps, Kosovo's greatest potential for 12-month tourism.
Duagjini too deserves to be treated like all of Kosovo.
I call on the mayors of Istog, Peja, Decani, Yunik, Gjakova, Rahovec, Prizren to raise their voices.
