Mexican President Andres Manuel Lobez Obrador said on Monday he would like to break up the army and place the country's security in the hands of the militarized National Guard police forces, though he acknowledged that his proposal was hard to pass.
In an interview for the Mexican newspaper La Jornada, the president said he favoured ensuring the country's security through the National Guard, which formally inaugurated on Sunday, writes Periscope.
“If it were for me, I would give up the army and return it to the National Guard, declaring Mexico a peaceful country that didn't like military and that the country's protection, if necessary, would be done by all of us,” he said.
Only a few countries in the world have disbanded the army, including the American nations Costa Rica and Panama. /Periscope
