Peru's former president, Alejandro Toledo, has been arrested in the U.S., informing Peruvian authorities.
The chief prosecutor's office said his arrest was in connection with a request for extradition issued in March last year.
Mr. Toledo is accused of taking bribes worth $20m in the Brazilian construction company Odebrecht, while it was in office between 2001 and 2006.
He denies all charges, saying they are politically motivated.
