In 6 years it has halved the surface of wheat planted land in Kosovo

Kosovo's interest in planting wheat has declined. As a result, grain - planted areas have been halved over the past six years. During the fall of last year, only 50,000 acres [50,000 ha] of wheat seed land were planted, unlike 2012, during which 102 acres [ 102 ha] were planted. As a result, [...]
As a result, the amount of wheat is expected to fail to meet the demands of the population, even though productivity is high.
This year's wheat productivity is 350 percent better than last year. Last year we've received 1500kg in order and it hasn't been quality this year we expect to get 6 tons”, a farmer from the Ferizaj municipality, reports Tch.
The Ministry of Agriculture will continue to subsidise wheat at the same value of 150 euros per hectare, totaling 6.6m euros. But the only problem for farmers does not remain the value of subsidy. They say the biggest risk is from import, as each year from countries in the region comes the large amount of grain whose price is below market value.
Importives are at great risk, as grain can come from it of all kinds of classes, the weaker grain and the cheaper price may come. Then the market on us is based on the price of import without talking about the reality of the wheat class. Import always harms us”, says Schker Sacha, farmer from the Ferizaj municipality.
Kosovo Customs data shows that Serbia has been the biggest wheat exporter in Kosovo, until the deployment of 100 per cent protection measure, to replace it with wheat coming from northern Macedonia, Albania, Hungary, Croatia and Bulgaria.
