Ulcinch's salt is declared a natural park

Ulcinj's criteria are named among the best known ecosystems in the Adriatic. It is the first area of international importance for birds in Montenegro, as well as “Emerald housing” The Berlin Convention.

The criteria are expected to soon become part of Ramsar's list, as internationally important havens.

Ulcinj's salt was founded in 1926 by the Italians and has an area of 15 thousand square feet [15 sq m] and is located on the Buna River Delta. And in it are abundant bird wealth. The freshwater waters of the river are separated from the salt water of the Adriatic Sea through the canals.

Like many other assets, Ulcinj's criteria have been state wealth after World War II. In 2003 it was privatised because the company went bankrupt.

The privatisationr bought it for 800 thousand euros. The price of land was set at 5 cents square by being described as close to the corrupts and politics in Montenegro.

Ulcinj's criteria have also been praised by the European Union, which also financed research on the protection and improvement of the saltwork.

The European Union has also conditioned the continuation of membership talks with chapter 27 of the agreement, dedicated to Ulcinj's natural park.
