Even though officials from the Kremlin have said they have not received an invitation from Washington for this meeting, Trump told reporters at the White House that “will meet Putin”.
The last meeting between the two presidents, Trump and Putin, was last in July 2018 in Helsinki.
After the Helsinki summit, he has faced fierce criticism from American lawmakers, including several Republicans who have said the president has not held Putin accountable for Russian actions, such as interference in the US presidential elections in 2016.
