Thaci: Can't wait another 20 years to end reports with Serbia

Kosovo President Hashim Thaci has stated that recent situations and developments are not at all promising that a final agreement can be reached between Kosovo and Serbia, as things are not moving at all and despite the latest initiative to unblock dialogue the result is zero. President Thaci made these comments at the “People's Voice about the Great Fairinales between Kosovo and Serbia”, organised by RIDEA.

Thaci said closing the dialogue with Serbia resulting in mutual recognition is the national interest of Kosovo, so it is necessary that as political spectrum we be unique to the issue.

I have no doubt that this year a legally binding agreement between Kosovo and Serbia can be reached, but if it doesn't happen, we enter a dangerous phase of these reports, which can destabilise reports not only ours as two states but also the region. Unfortunately, recent situations and developments are not promising at all, things are not moving at all and we are currently self-calculating. Despite the latest initiative to unlock the dialogue, the score is zero... 20 years ago nobody here in Pristina, Washington or Brussels has been able to imagine that two decades later, Kosovo and Serbia will not establish normal relations. Now all of us who are here know that we cannot expect another 20 years to end the reports between us and Serbia, and that time is not our ally, the statuscoha is unstable“, he said.

Norwegian Ambassador to Kosovo Per Strand Sjastad said the example of Macedonia and Greece is a good example to serve for all.

<x0) This study is of importance that most residents support dialogue, and the main message should be that people ask for changes. At the moment the unitary actions for Kosovo and Serbia make progress in the dialogue“difficult, he said, adding that the time factor is very important, as the delay of the process always brings difficulties and obstacles to”, he said.

Vetevendosje Movement Chairman Albin Kurti said it must be clarified that Kosovo's path to the European Union does not cross Serbia, but Serbia's EU path passes through Pristina.

“I have a very simple proposal, let's make UN membership once, let's gain recognition of Serbia, then we correct the border that we remember very well that let's make the correction of the border with Montenegro that we get liberalisation, we lose 8,200 hectares and visa liberalisation didn't happen.... We are convinced that the political subject that the right solution is with the right step, let's not pretend that we don't have any agreement with Serbia, we have 33 agreements with Serbia, the issue is that it should be done with a review of and the 6-year-old dialogue, let's implementation of our influence, so let's 33-year-old citizens, where we're doing the wrongs in the future, he said.

The deputy chairman of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lutfi Haziri, has that the opposition supports dialogue, but not the way this process is going.

“No elections to enter the government at any cost, but elections to define citizens' support and take responsibility for solving these problems because Kosovo today is unequipped with expected responsibilities, rather it is continuing to be hostage to internal processes. I didn't deliberately underline it, but I want to mention, not that it's literally pushing the decisions of political parties to population that can't be controlled, cannot be managed in solving the country's critical problems “, he said.

Social Democrat Party and State Delegation co-director Shpend Ahmeti said Serbia's presidents and prime ministers have not changed.

It is clear that Serbia is saying what is the price you will pay for recognition from Serbia, so we have a price to pay, now it's already about what price we're paying, in this case it's good to discuss what price we're willing to pay. It was said that time is not our ally, we should explain that this is not an orphan as a crime of“, he said.

Otherwise, it was said during this survey conducted on the basis of polls by both communities, that for the continuation of the status time there are 7 per cent of citizens -- for association with executive competencies in exchange for recognition De Facto from Serbia -- there are 9 per cent of citizens, and for the correction of borders that would result with recognition and membership of Kosovo in the UN -- support is 32 per cent of Kosovo citizens.

During this poll, it has been seen that the Albanian community is concerned about the difficulty of free movement and Serb returnees, who have stressed the need for resolving domestic issues. Also, 83 per cent oppose association with executive competence.
