Thaci-Vucciki: We're neighboring places, even if we're just talking about weather, good to see you.

The head of state said that by the spirit of discussion they have developed today has seen a more serious commitment to a whole European co-ordination, but also to the US as the necessary condition for success in the dialogue process.

The “was an encouraging commitment by President Macron and Chancellor Merkel, Paris and Berlin, to have better preparation for the Paris summit, to be a summit that opens a secure perspective of the continuation of dialogue, the possibility of reaching the final Kosovo-Serbia agreement, but also the European perspective of the Republic of Kosovo. We clearly stressed that the tariff should remain in force, it is a legitimate decision, on the other hand, to respect the agreements that were reached in 2013 on all sides. I hope there will be a serious commitment in the coming weeks, so that there will be a full co-ordination, to have concrete reflection of our commitments in the process of dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia. On the other side of the spirit of discussion we conducted today, I see there is a more serious commitment to a whole European co-ordination, but also to the US as the necessary condition for the success of this” process, he said.

Asked what the demands of Germany and France have been, Thaci said there have been no specific demands, but has been discussed on how to get the best preparation of the Paris meeting.

Meanwhile, as for Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic's statements that without being taxed, Thaci said dialogue and the Paris meeting should happen unconditionally.

The “Dialogue must happen, but the Paris summit also has to happen. This meeting will take place regardless of Vuciki's mood or not. Tarifa will not be removed, it is a legitimate decision of Kosovo institutions, though powers in Kosovo are divided and I could say with the Kosovo Government's decision, but personally I am against the removal of the tariff. Also, definitely no one from the international community should allow Belgrade to set conditions for the Paris meeting or the continuation of the dialogue process, but in the end we are neighbouring countries, even for weather only if we discuss it well. No specific requests have been addressed to me, it has been discussed how to make the best preparation of the meeting and to have concrete progress from the Paris meeting, which I hope will be better prepared but also with concrete steps of progress”, Thaci said.

At this meeting with delegations consisting of officials from France and Germany, Thaci said they have also talked about visa liberalisation, where he indicated they will not allow new conditions for Kosovo to be established.

“I have also stated that Kosovo under no circumstances will accept new criteria for visa liberalisation, nor lifting tariffs or any other issue because Kosovo has met all criteria for visa liberalisation. There is a defined discrimination and treatment of Kosovo citizens as if they were second-class citizens under these commitments of EU member states”, he said.

The Paris meeting will take place on July 1st.
