Justice Minister Abelard Tahiri has held a meeting today with ambassadors and chiefs of diplomatic missions of European Union countries, who have informed them of the measures this minister is taking in addressing the findings of the European Commission's progress report.
He has stressed that the report has praised progress in legislative reforms and also steps taken in consolidating the justice system.
In addition to the norm changes, Minister Tahiri has stressed that the report also speaks of increasing the number of judicial staff in the prosecution and court, including in the Special Prosecutor.
After investments in the judiciary and the prosecutorial system through budget growth, today the Republic of Kosovo has reached quotas according to European standards for the number of judges and prosecutors per capita. This investment will continue in the future, and we expect an adequate planning for the needs of KPC and KKP, which we will consistently support”, he said.
According to Minister Tahiri, the report recognises the Ministry of Justice initiatives, the Functional Review of Law Rule and Agenda “Justice 2020” as the mechanism for institutional co-ordination in the function of law enforcement.
In addition to changes made to the Correcting and Sprovatory Service, Minister Tahiri has also cited changes being made to legislation and the mechanisms of fighting corruption.
In this direction, the changes enable more powerful instruments, according to Minister Tahiri, for the achievement of better results.
“The fight against corruption and organised crime should continue to produce overall results in each direction and we still have much work to do. But what is certain is that today, after the adoption of legislative reforms, independent law enforcement bodies have powerful instruments in their hands to crack down on corruption and organised crime at a very different level than what the minister Tahiri has already witnessed.
The rule of law, according to Minister Tahiri, but takes the right approach and direction, being close to full feasibility of the Law State.
And personally, as justice minister, I've tried to get the rule of law to take the right approach and direction. With laws that we have reformed and others that are under way, I believe that the Republic of Kosovo has never been closer to full feasibility of the rule of law”, he has said.
