Mrs. Capuova becomes Slovakia's fifth president since the breakup of Czechoslovakia in two countries in 1993. The 45-year-old president has little political experience but attracted voters who express themselves driven by corruption and current politics. It will have a more ceremonial role.
In a jurist profession, Mrs. Caputova became known for his successful battle against a landfill of toxic waste in her hometown, Pezinok. For this job she was honoured in 2016 with the prestigious Goldman award that values work for environmental causes.
President Zuzana Capuova is divorced and has two children. It has expressed itself in favour of homosexual rights and opposes attempts to limit abortion rights, trends that make a very liberal politician in a Catholic country like Slovakia.
