Nearly 70.8 million people have been forcibly displaced according to the agency's annual report, or 2.3 million more than last year.
These numbers are double registered 20 years ago, writes Periscope from the BBC.
The report further says that 37 thousand refugees leave their homes every day.
What we're seeing in these numbers is a further confirmation of a long-term trend of the number of people needing security and fleeing war, conflict and persecution,” said Philippo Grandi, UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
The largest number of all refugees in the world came from Syria, Afghanistan, South Sudan, Myanmar, and Somalia. /Periscope
