This statement, made in a speech marking six centuries from the Battle of Kosovo, many have interpreted the war as the beginning of the struggle for territorial enlargement and reshuffle of the borders of then Yugoslavia.

“In this country in the heart of Serbia, in Fushe Kosovo, six centuries ago, full of 600 years ago, there was one of the greatest battles of the time... Six centuries ago, Serbia has defended itself here. But it also protected Europe”, Milosevic said.
