Kyle Scott: Kosovo-Serbia dialogue must resume, frozen conflict does not bring stability

US Ambassador to Serbia Kyle Scott, speaking about the Kosovo issue, has said a comprehensive agreement should be reached between Kosovo and Serbia, because the frozen conflict is not an option that brings stability. I'm sure such an option does not bring stability. We do not want such a long - term situation. With the Brussels agreement, Serbia is obliged to engage in efforts to reach a comprehensive agreement on normalisation, as is Kosovo. This should be the goal of both sides, and that's certainly our target”, Scott told “Danas”, sends out Telegrafi.
He said the US supports EU-mediated negotiations and wants to find a way for all parties to return to the table again.
We now have another kind of frozen conflict, in which the negotiation process is actually frozen. And nothing is happening in terms of reaching a” agreement, the American ambassador said.
He said the US from the beginning has been very clear in its stance that customs duties are not useful and are an obstacle to return to the negotiating table and that it must be removed.
“Customs shows the difficulties of progress in the state of mutual distrust between the conflict parties. While efforts that responsibility for the inability to reach the agreement are carried to Berlin, Paris, Moscow, Brussels, Washington or Beijing, in this regard is not an adequate approach”, he said.
The only sustainable solution should be local, based on the agreement between Kosovo and Serbia, and the only way to achieve that is to return to talks”, Scott said.
He added that the customs tax is an obstacle, “but has many obstacles to reaching a comprehensive agreement on normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia.
