Ilir Meta argues for his election delay decision

President Ilir Meta has appeared on Monday morning at an extraordinary press conference to clarify his decision regarding the annulment of local elections on June 30th. Citing the Constitution, he said the president of the Republic is the only constitutional body that has the competence of the appointment of the [...] date.
Citing the Constitution, he said the president of the Republic is the only constitutional body that has authority over the appointment of the election date and for holding referenda. He added that the elections are a moment of unity for Albanian citizens and could by no means be a divisive day.

There is real danger that Albania will move towards unpredictable escalation that could cause unpredictable consequences. It's a threat to peace in the country. Developing free elections and without opposition participation violates certain constitutional principles”, Meta said.
