Germany threatened by government collapse?

German Social Democrats suffered a serious loss in recent European elections, but no one expected their boss's resignation.

This situation could lead to the fall of the German government. In fact, the SPD will elect a new leader, who is likely to come from a faction opposing the new large SPD coalition and the CRU a year ago.

The media say one of the reasons is that the possible new party chairman, Olaf Scholz, vice- chancer and finance minister, believes it is not necessary to proceed with a major coalition.

The Social Democrats ended up in European elections as the country's third strongest party, after the Democrats and the Greens.
