The QNL, sold as a noisy “library”, contains a 120-seat audience and an area of events in the heart of space, filled with natural light, which reminds you of a modern airport.
All the books you see in this country can be borrowed by users. Unlike many national libraries, we have a public library function that is co-ordinated with national function and research”, says Stuart James Hamilton, deputy executive director of the library.
With over a million books and 500,000 digital publications, the library located in Doha, is the largest in the Middle East.
However, competition is not missing, the United Arab Emirates are trying to pass Qatar with the newest library, in Dubai, “Mohammed Bin Rashid”, which when it opens, will reportedly offer a whole of 1.5 million books to the public for reading.
