Through a media release, UNMIK has declared they are conveying with concern recent developments in Kosovo.
“U n The NMIC is following developments in northern Mitrovica today with great concern, including the ban of two UN workers during the police action. Both UNMIK members have been transferred to the hospital for treatment of injuries. We are looking at precise circumstances in full co-ordination with all international organisations on the ground”, the announcement said.
The special representative of UN Secretary General in Kosovo, Zahir Tan, has called for the immediate release of UNMIK staff, adding that “any hurt to UNMIK members will have high diplomatic and international legal response”.
The “calls on all sides to be guided by the principles of rule of law and dignity for life, freedom and to help restore calm and security in this section”, he has said.
Today among the many arrested, Kosovo President Hashim Thaci said there was also a Russian who had been camouflaged as diplomat. Russia reacted to this, demanding the immediate release of its citizens, for whom it said it works in UNMIK.
