However, laboratory tests for nitrate levels, pesticide waste, and heavy metals are done by the Food and Veterinary Agency only in cases of physical suspicion.
“Products have been without any changes in organoleptic viewpoint. While we are suspicious of sending them for analysis to the Kosovo Agricultural Institute, at Pec”, Nedime Calander, border inspector said.
Agriculture Professor at the University of Pristina Skender Suiu shows that these parameters are impossible to distinguish from outward appearance.
There is no visual method on which we say that a product contains more or less nitrate. Standard methods and analysis should be used to determine these” parameters, Professor Skender Suiu said.
These tests cannot be conducted in Albania either. “Top Story” brought evidence that the laboratory for analysis of the Institute of Food Safety and Veterinary Safety is not accredited. In this way, Kosovo markets have introduced between 2018 vegetables in the amount of 23 million pounds.
Consumers' concerns about the quality of products increased in particular after the “research transmission Top Story” for the risk of food. Even so, the Food Agency says all products controlled meet the criteria for consumption.
