Lutfi Haziri signed 26 million agreements on construction of the facility in Gjilan

This project includes all collectors and construction of the plant, which is the largest water processing and cleaning plant coming from the villages and settlements in Gjilan and outside our municipality to prevent river pollution. Citizens of the municipality of Gjilan, in particular Maliseva, Uglari and Pgravja, and the most affected settlements, will be mostly enjoying this” project, chairman Lutfi Haziri said after signing the agreement.

The “Investors are the BERZHUE, the European Investment Bank and the municipality of Gjilan. There are three partners that will cover millions of euros in construction of the plant, while the Kosovo government is guarantor of the soft loan, but most of it will be grants. So, we've entered the beginning of the end of the main project, which means the removal of all the vads, rocks and sewage, which will make Gjilan a clean city, with clean rivers and modern plant systems”, has added Haziri.

The director of the European Development Bank in Pristina, Neil Taylor, stressed that the facility will have capacity for 76 thousand people, adding that, along with the chairman of Gjilan and the director of “Hedromorva”, the job is agreed to start in next year.

We signed the loan agreement with the Government of Kosovo in Sarajevo two weeks ago and are funding the implementation of this project together with the European Investment Bank and part is in the form of grant from the EU. I'm very happy that this is the first municipal-level investment outside the capital and we've agreed that this is our strategy for focus on municipal infrastructure. The facility will have the capacity for 76 thousand residents”, Taylor indicated.

However, the director of the water pipeline company “Hidromoreva”, Muhamet Sulqi, when addressing journalists, has thanked Gjilan's chairman for, as he said, bringing this great donation to Gjilan.

“The beneficiaries of this project are citizens of Gjilan, where they will have a cleaner environment. The project includes sewage collectors, where it will be invested at a length of 35 miles [38 km] to complete with the sewage treatment plant. The facility is designed to be built in the Uglar suburb, on a surface of seven hectares of”, Sulucci concluded.
