Justice sought for perpetrators of Dubrava massacre

Dubrava's prison in contrast to other days today was the host of many members and state leaders who remembered Albanian prisoners killed in the Dubrava prison massacre. On 20 years of this 20th anniversary, survivors of this massacre and families demanded that perpetrators of crime [...]

On the 20th anniversary of the site where survivors of this massacre were persecuted and family members demanded that perpetrators be brought to justice.

The former prisoners who survived this terror that lasted about four hours expressed surprise how local institutions have so far undertaken nothing in this direction.

To remember and honor the fallen in this massacre within the prison's environment, the bell of Lapidar was thrown, where the names of those killed were carved.

Present at this manifestation was Kosovo Assembly Speaker Kadri Veselin under the auspices, whose manifestation was also organised, where it was said representatives of the country's institutions should stop mourning, but must act thus to bring the perpetrators of the Serbian genocide to Kosovo.

From Dubrava, Wessel said that mass murder of people in this prison is one of the most clear evidence showing the organisation, platform and planning of the genocide of the Serbian state in Kosovo.

He also said that Serbia becomes even easier, as “we make the easiest choice: we face each other rather than face Serbia”.

Kosovo's chief speaker, Kadri Veselini, said Kosovo must become an operational state, seeking and establishing justice, not just statistics and numbers of pain.

The Speaker of the Parliament said convinced that the International Tribunal to condemn the Serb genocide in Kosovo is necessary and that there is no one to stop it.

The horror they had experienced within the walls of Dubrava prison for four days, the survivor of the massacre, Bajrush Xhemajli, who said that for days within the prison walls, they saw Serbian forces killing their friends and wounded many others.

Xhemajli said that despite having numerous facts and the names of the perpetrators of this massacre, justice has remained silent against this crime.

According to him, Dubrava's post-war prison would not have to be built immediately, but, as he put it, the international community wanted to hide noises that NATO fell into Serbia's trap.

Uke Thaci from the association of former political prisoners as he expressed surprise at the silence of institutions in front of this massacre, demanded that the perpetrators of the Dubrava massacre be brought to justice.

Thaci has called it late and obstructed by UNMIK placing the bellstone.

Present at this anniversary was French Sebastian Grikhu, who after the war had the role of Red Cross representative, said it is time for state leaders to seek justice for crimes committed by Serbia.

Grikhu did not fail to mention the scandal of extracting a photograph that later turned out to be false by PDK deputy Flora Brovina on the very day the Tribunal was due to be voted for genocide.

He said that raising Serbian crimes indictments does not harm Kosovo politically, rather strengthens it.

Leonidas Jasiqi on behalf of the family of prisoners killed in the Dubrava massacre called on local and international institutions to punish those who killed their loved ones.

The massacre in the Dubrava prison occurred from May 19th 1999 to May 22nd, where 160 Albanian prisoners remained and more than 300 former prisoners remained. In this case, criminal charges have been filed at the District Court in Pec, and numerous evidence has been given, but so far none of the perpetrators have been convicted.
