Bahtiri points out that he does not know why the petition is not being considered until he points out he will not give up his initiative, KTV reports.
The Parliament Speaker Kadri Veselini's party, which supported Bahtiri in his initiative, competed with Gonge Chaushin for North Mitrovica chairmanship.
She says that with the PDK, Mitrovica will be united, but, according to her, much work is needed.
Even the candidate of Vetevendosje for chairman of northern Mitrovica says he plans to join Mitrovica.
But, the LDK and AAK say much caution is needed in the plan for uniting two municipalities.
Despite supporting the idea of unity, they say it was clear that it would not be supported by the central level.
Citizens feel frustrated and do not trust the country's institutions.
Chairman Agim Bahtiri's initiative for uniting the two municipalities came after the resignation of North Mitrovica Chairman Goran Rakic.
The petition, with more than 16,000 signatures of the citizens of South Mitrovica for uniting the city, surrendered in January this year to the Kosovo Assembly.
