The focus of the Berlin Summit, attended by Chancellor Merkel as well as French President Macron, is the relationship between Kosovo and Serbia. But for Kosovo President Hashim Thaci this will be a routine meeting, as he says of the Top Channel microphone, there is neither negotiations nor agreements without the US.
Muhammad Veliu: Mr. President, what are your expectations on this Sam?
Hashim Thaci: First, I appreciate the additional commitment of the Merkel, but also of President Macron, for developments in the Western Balkans, but also of the Kosovo issue. Relation to Kosovo and Serbia, the possibility of reaching an agreement between the two countries. But he also stressed that I do not expect any miracles, it will be a routine meeting. There will be no dialogue, no negotiations, no more deals. Negotia and agreement are reached only when the United States is present and leads the process.
Muhammad Veliu: Do you come to this Sam with an agreement with Prime Minister Haradinaj on what you will talk about?
Hashim Thaci: Kosovo is an independent and sovereign state, we are tasked with respecting the Constitution and laws, and any commitments we will have as sovereign countries with very clear positions. I defend the position of correcting the injustices that Presevo, Medvedja, Bujanovac, join Kosovo.
Muhammad Veliu: Mr. President, are you hoping to receive some support from German Chancellor and French president regarding visa liberalisation?
Hashim Thaci: We hope and want to believe that we will have a support for visa liberalisation, because in the end it is a respect for the contract with Kosovo citizens and its institutions. We have implemented all criteria. If this does not happen, it will be a major disappointment for Kosovo citizens. I also expect Merkel and Macron will support our initiative to condemn Serbian genocide in Kosovo 20 years ago.
