Surroi: Kosovo risks not being creative, but defence in Berlin

In a conversation at Top Talk of TopChannel, publicist Surroi says President Thaci, when giving the idea of exchanging territories with Serbia, acted separately, without support.

The confrontation that Mr. Thaci had with Mr. Haradinaj has been only with him, but with everyone else in Kosovo because Mr. Thaci's idea has been overwhelmingly rejected. He has thought that just as he usurped other areas of life, economic and political in Kosovo, he could usurp the right to negotiations on Kosovo”, Surroi said.

For the idea of exchanging territories with Serbia, Surroi says only one believer remains “, called Hashim Thaci”.

According to him, there is agreement between the European and US states on the Kosovo issue, and that Washington is not backing down, but that Serbia and Kosovo are responsible for the European context and will be resolved as such.

It is good that the US supports this process are very important security guarantees in the region, especially for Kosovo. I think such an agreement is fruitful”.

He says the risk of participating in the Berlin Summit is that Kosovo's stance may not be creative.

I don't think there will be two positions. Kosovo has the risk of not having a creative attitude because it is always in defense, it always has to say that we are against partition, against that, against that. And Kosovo's negotiating force, unfortunately, has been largely depreciated by Mr Thaci on charges against him of crime and others. But, on the other hand, this animation that was created against division, against the idea of territorial exchange”, Surroi said.

Surroi said the political situation in Albania and Kosovo is different is another story of transition development.

On the issue of visa liberalisation, Surroi said Kosovo has made mistakes and has been exploited the country's poor position in large measure.

As for meetings between the two Albanian governments, he said there are more folklore at these meetings than functionality. Unfortunately, we are dealing with two states that are not showing proper functionality power. The problem is not whether Kosovo will communicate with Albania, but whether these states will communicate with its citizens. The functional projects require functional state devices, which unfortunately we have fewer and fewer in Kosovo and Albania”.

Surroi said pessimistic about a possible compromise agreement between Kosovo and Serbia this year, but says a framework of negotiations can be reached.

“I don't believe there will be compromise agreement this year with Serbia. The option that can be done is that within this year, Kosovo and Serbia, with great help from the EU, create a framework of European, creative negotiations, creating space of freedom between the two countries and which releases energy in both countries. It doesn't mean we're going to have these leaders in power for this deal”, Veton Surroi said at the end of the interview.
