Social Democrat Party deputy Chairman Wisar Ymer, at a media conference, has talked about the urgent need to raise the minimum wage in the country, which has not occurred since 2011, while there have been three times in the public sector.
He said the PSD as a party has sought interference in the Assembly over the minimum wage issue in the country, but this has not yet happened.
February 5th “, 70 days have taken place and the interface has not yet occurred. The minimum wage we now have is from 2011. We as institutions have forgotten the existential difficulty of workers. One of these workers who asked me not to mention her name was a mother of two without a husband, having a minimum wage. To be endangered by poverty is to be hungry, but even when you fill your stomach, you are malnourished”, Ymer said.
The rise of the minimum wage to 250 euros, according to Ymer, is the emergency measure, and as a party, they expect this issue to be discussed today or the following days.
The minimum wage in Kosovo, though under the Labour Law, would have to be determined annually, since 2011 it continues to be 130 euros for employed under the age of 35 and 170 euros for employees over 35.
The Economic-Social Council, which included representatives of the country's workers, businesses and institutions, had proposed that the minimum wage be raised since 2017, but that the proposals given so far have not entered into force.
