The popular blogger: Visit Albania immediately

Albania is an underrated treasure in the Balkans. Most people really don't know much about this extraordinary country, even worse, have a wrong imagination in their minds, writes renowned Hungarian blogger Gabriella Sovago on her blog “The Feeling remains” dedicated to travel. “When I started [...]

When I started planning my trip to Albania, I was warned by many who tried to prepare me for Albania as Hungary 50 years ago. Communism. Bullshit. They don't care about people. So I had no great expectations when I arrived”, says Sovago in this long coverage of why our country should be visited.

And I ended up staying in Albania for almost two months because this place is fantastic and people here are very kind and help! Moreover, Albania is extremely beautiful! This place has become one of my favorite places and is a destination where I will certainly return. Try it yourself before others realize how magical and untouched this place is”, she points out.

A tour guide to Albania worked by Hungarian blogger, along with many reasons why Albania should be visited immediately:

Culture and History

If you want to get to know a little bit more about Albania's history, you definitely have to go to Tirana, you need to visit “BunkArt” and develop a driving tour. In short, the democratic system was established in Albania only in the early 1990s. Earlier, Albania was under one of the most oppressive communist regimes, even North Korea had more trading partners than Albania just a few years ago.

Now Albania is a country where some beliefs co-exist together without any conflict, completely at peace so you can find different religious symbols very close together.

Wear what?

Whatever you want! Really! You don't have to change your dress style because of Albania. However, if you want to go to church or glass, carry a scarf with you.

Language

Albanian is as popular as Hungarian (not very familiar), so don't worry if you don't know the language. Yet, learning a few basic words makes you feel better as a tourist. The new generation speaks English, however, you will find many places, even in the tourist sector and hotels where they do not know how to speak English. But don't be anxious, for these men are very generous, and will do your utmost. In addition to Albanian, Greek and Italian are popular.

Prices and Coins

The official currency is money in Albania, but wherever you can even use the euro, however, it is better to use local currency.

Albania is free. In fact, it depends on which country it comes from, because if you are from another Balkan country, you will likely face the same prices as in your country. If it comes from a North European country or from the United States, you will be surprised how cheap it is here. Even if you come from New Zealand or Australia, you can live like a king, seriously.

Water faucet - Yes or No?

In fact, there are some places where it's not a good idea to drink tap water, but I didn't have a problem as long as I was in Albania and drank tap water. Ask the staff where you're staying and they'll tell you. But if you don't want to risk it, drink the bottle water, it's free, like anything else.

Is Albania safe?

As a lone female traveler, I can say that Albania is a safe country! Yes, safe to travel alone or as a couple. I can say that anywhere in Albania is safer than in Madrid, Paris, Rome or Budapest. Street crime is not widespread, just like bag robbery and Albanians are honest so they won't steal you just because you're a tourist. Of course there are bad people like anywhere, so don't be irresponsible but, in general, Albania is safe.

Bus, van, and train

Using public transportation is an adventure, especially when you leave Tirana in the direction of small villages. Be prepared to spend a lot of time because this process is long and slow but it's really an experience so you have to try at least once.

What to Eat

Everyone has its own tastes, but Albanian food is wonderful. Although Albanian cuisine is slightly influenced by Italian, Turkish and Greek, it is still very different and tasty. Some of the foods you shouldn't lose are yogurt pans, pies, chocolate cakes, and alcohol called raki.

The Best Time to Visit

Seriously, anytime! But if you want to enjoy Albania's beautiful beaches, the best time to visit is from May to October.

The main reasons to visit Albania immediately!

Besides everything I said earlier, including my previous articles on this beautiful place, the main reason I love Albania so much is that everything here is an adventure. Even a bus trip, especially a bus trip.

Ask why?

Because of people. It doesn't matter if you don't speak the same language. It doesn't matter if you seem to have anything in common. They are there and always willing to help you or simply to make your day better
